What is a Hallux Valgus?
A Hallux Valgus is a deformity of the big toe, where the toe curves towards the other toes, forming a bunion at the base of the toe (the big toe joint). Hallux Valgus can be caused by various factors, including genetic predisposition, overpronation, or wearing shoes that are too narrow. Hallux Valgus often occurs in conjunction with a splayfoot.
Our Shoe Recommendation
To alleviate discomfort associated with Hallux Valgus and avoid pressure points, shoes should offer a generous, soft, padded toe area without pressing seam connections. Inserts made of stretch materials to relieve pressure on the bunion can be particularly helpful.
It is also advisable to choose shoes with a low heel and a rolling sole to reduce pressure on the forefoot. High heels should be avoided as they increase pressure on the bunion.
Selecting appropriate shoes and early treatment offer the best opportunity to alleviate symptoms and halt the progression of the deformity.
