THE FOOT, THE FOUNDATION OF OUR BODY
Around 600,000 years ago, humans began to walk upright. Ever since, our feet have had to bear the burden. They carry us around the world four times, about 160,000 km, during our lifetime.
The foot, like the whole body, is a miracle. A perfect construction of 28 bones, held together by ligaments, which together with muscles and tendons move the joints flexibly, allowing us to walk, run, dance and jump.
Longitudinal and transverse arches, important for the foot's flexible sequence of walking, provide suspension with every tread. The skin protects, regulates the temperature, and releases moisture.
LIFE WITH HEALTHY FEET
"Walking barefoot has already demonstrated the best service in the most diverse diseases. It is a good remedy against headaches, migraines, bladder problems, adenoid issues and is also just as good for the throat and organs of speech,” said Sebastian Kneipp more than 100 years ago.
Exercise is important for the entire body. Ideally, we should exercise outdoors on natural ground and in a healthy environment – a park, or even better in the woods, rather than a city block – and barefoot as much as possible.
Sport Provides Balance
You do not have to exercise like a professional athlete to keep your feet and legs fit. Even a slow but steady start can contribute greatly to a person's general well-being: running, swimming and light gymnastics, for example, provide a healthy balance to the one-sided burden of our daily lives.
