What is Hallux Rigidus?
Hallux Rigidus is a degenerative condition of the big toe joint, characterized by progressive stiffness and painful movement restrictions. It is usually caused by osteoarthritis (joint wear and tear), which can be aggravated by overuse, misalignment, or genetic factors.
Our Shoe Recommendation
To relieve discomfort and prevent pain caused by Hallux Rigidus, shoes should provide a spacious toe box. The big toe should never be cramped inside the shoe.
It is also advisable to choose shoes with a low heel and a firm, well-defined rocker sole to reduce pressure on the big toe joint.
An appropriate insole with arch support and a special Hallux Rigidus relief feature (such as a rigidus bar or stiffening) can further reduce strain on the joint.
Wearing suitable shoes and seeking early treatment offer the best way to alleviate symptoms and slow the progression of Hallux Rigidus.
