It all began in 1922 with the revolutionary idea of building shoes that conform to the shape of the foot and enable natural, healthy walking.
Together with a renowned doctor, the master shoemaker August Ganter developed his first foot-friendly sandal! A shoe that supports the foot only where and when necessary, offering it ample space to move as freely as possible. Initially ridiculed by many free spirits, success later proved him right - people loved and continue to love GANTER shoes to this day!
Natural Walking
Encouraged by success, GANTER comfort shoes have continually evolved, leading to the creation of the first GANTER AKTIV in 1977. Its special sole allowed wearers to experience stimulating barefoot walking as if on natural, soft surfaces for the first time. The effect was remarkable. Back pain and posture issues could be avoided or reduced, and natural, healthy walking with the GANTER AKTIV became especially valued in urban areas with asphalted streets. From then on, the journey continued successfully step by step: Following the invention of the GANTER nubbed sandal, the GANTER foot trainer, and the arcade joint for relieving the metatarsal heads, the patented 4-point sole was introduced in 1985. This sole guides, stimulates, and activates the foot along its natural rolling line while walking. In 2006, the effectiveness of the GANTER AKTIV in providing relief and activation was enhanced, even becoming the namesake for an entire shoe category: the AKTIV shoes.
It has always been an integral part of our corporate culture not to stand still but to continually improve upon what is good. Thus, in 2020, the new LIGHT-STRICE TECHOLOGY (LST) was introduced, which builds upon the principles of the GANTER AKTIV. The LST facilitates an incredibly smooth rolling motion from heel to toe, allowing for walking with less effort or for longer distances. At the same time, it provides relief to the back and joints.
GANTER has accumulated a wealth of experience in catering to particularly sensitive feet. This expertise benefits not only the entire GANTER collection but also led to the development of the dedicated GANTER SENSITIV line, tailored 100% to the needs of sensitive feet. A standout feature of this line is the inclusion of a specially developed, soft, silver-coated SENSITIV lining.
Each individual GANTER shoe is equipped with only the "best" for the foot. For example, alongside vegetable-tanned calf leather linings, removable cork footbeds, and memory foam cushioning are utilized. To ensure every foot finds its best fit, GANTER offers seven widths – from E to L – with a slim heel for perfect support.
